Gjon Mili | American, 1904 - 1984

Trained as an engineer, Gjon Mili arrived in America from Albania in 1923 and began working for LIFE. He later collaborated with Professor Harold Edgerton, the father of electronic flash, to pioneer strobe photography. In 1939 Mili began dissecting movement with rapid-sequence firing that showed multiple images on a single film frame. His most famous series is Picasso drawing with light.
