Larry Colwell | American, 1911 - 1972
Larry Colwell's eloquent figure studies were promoted in the 1950's through Minor White's efforts at Aperture Magazine. Among his contemporaries were Wynn Bullock, Ruth Bernhard, and Edward Weston. Of Colwell's photographs, White notes, "The tension between sharp and blurred images is exploited to the full, as symbol of movement, fluidity of the dancer's bodies, realization of mood." (Minor White, Aperture Vol. 4, No. 1, 1956).
